This looks absolutely breathtaking! How did you handle the altitude sickness? I’m planning a similar trip next month and am nervous about that.

    1. Great question! I took Diamox preventatively and had portable oxygen tanks. Honestly though, nothing prepares you for that first day in Lhasa – just plan to do NOTHING that day!

  2. MountainMama88

Your photos are STUNNING! How much driving did you do each day? I’m worried about getting fatigued on those mountain roads.

  3. The cost breakdown is super helpful! Did you find the Land Cruiser rental easy to arrange? Any hidden fees I should watch for?

    1. @RoadTripQueen Renting was straightforward through a local agency. The only “hidden” thing was the hefty deposit (about $1500) which was refunded when we returned the car scratch-free!

  4. GlacierGoddess

That toilet situation sounds intense! Were there ANY proper restrooms along the route or should I mentally prepare for wilderness peeing?

  5. Just completed my trip thanks to your guide! The permit process was smoother than expected but OMG those 108 zigzags – I’ve never been so carsick in my life! Worth it though ??

    1. @EverestDreamer SO happy to hear that! And yes, those switchbacks are legendary for a reason – I kept Dramamine in my pocket at all times! So glad you pushed through!
