This was Day 3 of our 828.5km odyssey along China\u2019s greatest driving route \u2013 the <em>Yanhuang Gonglu<\/em> (\u6cbf\u9ec4\u516c\u8def). First stop: <strong>Tong Pass<\/strong> (\u6f7c\u5173), where the Yellow River meets the Wei. Standing atop Ming Dynasty fortifications, I understood why poets wept here \u2013 the confluence of rivers looked like two dragons entwining.<\/p>\n            \n\n            \n            <figure Must-dos:<\/p>\n            \n\n            \n            <ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n                <li><strong>Dangjia Village<\/strong>: 600-year-old clan residences with hidden drainage systems<\/li>\n                <li><strong>Simaqian Temple<\/strong>: Homage to China\u2019s Herodotus (Entry \u00a565)<\/li>\n                <li><strong>Night Market Feast<\/strong>: <mark style=\"background-color:#d5f7e6\">Hancheng lamb soup<\/mark> (\u00a525) will redefine comfort food<\/li>\n            <\/ul>\n            \n\n            \n            <h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"day-2-hukou-waterfall-when-nature-roars\">Day 2: Hukou Waterfall \u2013 When Nature Roars<\/h3>\n            \n\n            \n            <p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The 180km drive to <strong>Hukou<\/strong> revealed why this highway is legendary. At <mark style=\"background-color:#ffd8d8\">Mengmen Mountain section<\/mark>, the road narrows to one lane with <s>no guardrails<\/s> \u2013 my knuckles turned white gripping the wheel while my partner shot video (madness!).<\/p>\n            \n\n            \n            <figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote has-medium-font-size\">\n                <blockquote><p>&#8220;The Yellow River isn&#8217;t just water \u2013 it&#8217;s liquid thunder. At Hukou, it plunges 30 meters into a cauldron of mist that soaks you to the skin. Bring waterproof EVERYTHING.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n            <\/figure>\n            \n\n            \n            <p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hukou entry fee: \u00a590 (worth every jiao). Avoid the crowded main platform; hike 15 mins upstream to <strong>Dragon Cave<\/strong> where you\u2019ll stand <em>behind<\/em> the cascade. Dinner: Farmer\u2019s claypot stew (\u00a540) in nearby Yichuan.<\/p>\n            \n\n            \n            <h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"day-3-wubaos-cliffside-ballet\">Day 3: Wubao\u2019s Cliffside Ballet<\/h3>\n            \n\n            \n            <p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This 200km stretch from Yanchuan to Wubao is the route\u2019s <strong>crowning glory<\/strong>. The road clings to limestone cliffs like a stubborn gecko, with the river swirling 300m below.
